Starting a Family: What is infertility?

Infertility affects one in six couples in Ireland, and the psychological distress that accompanies it has been likened to bereavement. It is good to see a greater awareness of the emotional distress of infertility in the media. Usually after a bereavement, people are given time and offered help to get back on their feet. However the financial pressure placed on couples undergoing ART treatments, along with the often lengthy wait for a pregnancy means they have to keep going to work and putting their best foot forward, never knowing what new problems might lie ahead.
